The Abbey is the symbol of Piedmont as well as the very first visit of our excursion. You will appreciate the whole architectural complex, from the early romanesque Church to the 1800 restoration, including the famous staircase of the dead and the Portal of the Zodiac. Being located along a medieval pilgrimage path called via Francigena, the Abbey became incredibly reach and powerful until 1200s. Beside the astonishing buildings of the monastery, the view from the panoramic terrace embraces both the Alps and the Susa Valley at west as well as the plain towards Turin at east.<\/p>\n<p>Our excursion will continue along the valley for lunch in Susa followed by a guided walking tour. Home to the Dynasty of the kings of Cozi, which ruled more of 30 Celtic tribes, Susa became a roman city, in the late 1st century B.C., without opposing to the new conquerors. There are several remains of the roman time such as the Arch of August, the amphitheatre, the gate of Savoy as well as the beautiful medieval city centre where the cathedral of San Giusto and the lovely alleys bring us back to the best time of the city.
